Anolon first launched in 1987 with a line of hard-anodized cookware and incorporated the cookware with a tough nonstick coating which made for very durable cookware. In 2003 Anolon launched Anolon Advanced hard-anodized cookware with the SureGrip™ handle made of silicone and stainless steel. This is what the Rachael Ray cookware line is made of. There are a few different materials used in the cookware types which are as follows:

Rachael Ray Non-Stick Cookware

This is made with the Anolon Advanced line with the SureGrip™ handles. It is oven safe up to 400 degrees. The hard anodizing is an electro-chemical process which increases the thickness of the natural oxide film in aluminum, to give it a hard non-oxidizing finish. The surface of the aluminum actually becomes harder than steel, which dramatically increases the durability of the surfaces of aluminum. The exterior finish after the hard anodizing process turns to it’s distinct dark gray color. Because it is made from aluminum it is lighter than stainless steel but still has the strength. Also, because of the process used, it cooks foods evenly, with no hot spots. Wood or silicone utensils work best with the cookware as they do not scratch the non stick surface.

The see through lids are also oven safe and allow you to see how your food is cooking without having to lift the lid and lose valuable heat.

It does not do well in the dishwasher as nonstick coatings have a tendency to chip and crack. It does however clean easily as nothing sticks to the nonstick coating making soap, water and a few swipes with a towel all you need. This type works well on any range top.

Rachael Ray Porcelain Enamel Cookware

The porcelain enamel line has the same durable qualities as the nonstick line but has an enamel coating that comes in a few beautiful colors.

Porcelain enamel is essentially a highly durable glass which, with coloring oxides and other inorganic materials, is fused to metal at extremely high temperatures. It adds for more even heat distribution all the way up the sides which is great for oven use. It is oven safe up to 400 degrees and has the same lids and handles as the non stick type.

For cleaning, use the same directions as the nonstick line.

Rachael Ray Stainless Steel Cookware

Rachael Ray stainless steel cookware starts with 18/10 stainless steel. Stainless steel is an alloy that starts with basic iron with up to 8 alloys added, depending on the quality. The major alloys in stainless steel are chromium and nickel. The chromium provides rust and corrosion resistance and durability. Nickel provides additional rust resistance, hardness, and high polishing characteristics. 18/10 is of the highest quality.

This 18/10 line features a full cap base of aluminum that heats quickly and evenly, reducing “hot spots” that can burn foods, plus a stylish satin finish stainless steel that is favored for its durability. It is safe for all cook tops and features the same SureGrip™ handles as well as the see through lids. It is oven safe up to 400 degrees.

Since it does not have a nonstick surface it is an excellent choice for searing foods over high heat and is dishwasher safe.
